Different types of learning

Different type of learning

There has been a research on different types of learning for individuals. As you probably know, there are many types of studying habits and types. There are the visual type of students (this students are good at making mind maps and use colors to underline sentences in notebooks), students that learn better when they hear something (this students benefits a lot from college classes), and other types of students.

What are the benefits of different types of studying?

It has been proven that one person will remember:

  • 1) 20% if you hear something,
  • 2) 30% if you see something,
  • 3) 50% if you see and hear something,
  • 4) 70% if you see, hear and discuss something you saw and hear,
  • 5) 90% if you see, hear, discuss, and experience something yourself.

  • So the best way to study would be the fourth option – seeing, hearing and discussing the topic. That means you should go to classes, make good notes and then study the same topic at home. You would then need to do mind maps and use color pens to emphasise topics. That way you would benefit from second option, which is “seeing something”. By going to classes you automatically benefited from option 1, which is “hearing something”. By discussing the topic with your college mates you benefit from option 3, which is “seeing, hearing and discussing”. So all together makes the option 4. You are now at about 70% of remembering all the stuff you are trying to learn. It is impossible to reach 100%, but you can try to reach 90%.
